AEW Redemption Review: A Good Show That Couldn’t Reach AEW’s Recent High Bar

AEW Redemption delivered another entertaining night of wrestling, but after the incredible run of pay-per-views AEW has produced over the last year, this event felt like a small step back. That’s not to say it was a bad show—far from it—but there were several matches that never quite reached the level fans have come to expect.

The biggest disappointment of the night was The Dogs vs. The Bang Bang Gang. On paper, it had all the ingredients to steal the show, but the chemistry never clicked, leaving it feeling flat compared to the rest of the card.

On the other hand, there were several standout performances that made Redemption well worth watching.

Spotlight Ratings

Kenny Omega vs. Kevin Knight

⭐⭐⭐½ (3.5 Spotlights)

A solid main event that gave Kevin Knight a chance to shine against one of the best in the world. While it never reached another gear, it was an enjoyable match that continues the build to Omega vs Ospreay.

Thekla vs. Willow Nightingale

⭐⭐⭐ (3 Spotlights)

A good championship contest that featured some fun exchanges, but it never quite found the intensity needed to become a true standout.

Kyle Fletcher vs. Bandido

⭐⭐⭐⭐½ (4.5 Spotlights)

One of the best matches of the night. Kyle Fletcher and Bandido delivered a fast-paced, athletic contest packed with incredible counters and high-impact offense. Exactly what you’d expect from these two.

Will Ospreay & Jon Moxley vs. The Young Bucks

⭐⭐⭐½ (3.5 Spotlights)

An entertaining tag team battle featuring four of AEW’s biggest stars. It delivered plenty of memorable moments, even if it fell just short of being a true classic.

Cope & Cage vs. PAC & Claudio Castagnoli

⭐⭐⭐ (3 Spotlights)

A solid veteran tag team match that was physical and well-worked throughout. Good, but not quite as memorable as some of the night’s stronger performances.

Mark Davis vs. Andrade

⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4 Spotlights)

A sleeper hit. Mark Davis and Andrade delivered a hard-hitting, technically sound match that exceeded expectations and kept the crowd invested from start to finish.

Hikaru Shida vs. Maya World

⭐⭐ (2 Spotlights)

Unfortunately, this one never found its rhythm. Both competitors had their moments, but it struggled to maintain momentum and ended up being one of the weaker matches on the card.

Chris Jericho vs. Tommaso Ciampa

⭐⭐½ (2.5 Spotlights)

A respectable match with some entertaining moments, but the ending fell a bit flat.

Six-Way Ladder Match

⭐⭐⭐⭐½ (4.5 Spotlights)

Absolute chaos in the best possible way. The ladder match featured creative spots, nonstop action, and several jaw-dropping moments that had the crowd on its feet. One of the highlights of the entire show.

The Dogs vs. The Bang Bang Gang

⭐⭐ (2 Spotlights)

The night’s biggest letdown. Expectations were high, but the match never seemed to click and ultimately felt underwhelming considering the talent involved.

Overall Show Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐✰ (3.1/5 Spotlights)

Redemption was still a good pay-per-view and another enjoyable night of AEW wrestling. However, when compared to the company’s recent streak of outstanding events, it simply didn’t hit the same highs. Thankfully, standout performances from Kyle Fletcher vs. Bandido, Mark Davis vs. Andrade, and the Six-Way Ladder Match helped elevate the card and kept the show from feeling disappointing.
